Steve Baker is Head of Software Engineering at UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory.
Steve manages the software engineering contracts undertaken by the Climate Physics Group at MSSL.
After graduating from Leicester University with a BSc in Physics with Astrophysics Steven worked as a Geophysicist and Manager on seismic data collection crews in the Middle East. He obtained a Masters Degree in Parallel Computer Systems from the University of the West of England in 1990. In 1991 he joined the Climate Physics Group at MSSL as a Research Fellow to support the groups use of Radar Altimeter (RA) projects and data.
Steven has led teams in a number of successful projects for ESA and other Commercial clients. These include: RA performance studies, RA instrument software simulators, Data product verification and QA, Design and development of RA Processing Chains and Data Products, and the development of sophisticated Data Analysis and Visualisation Tools.
The group has been designated by ESA as an Expert Support Laboratory for the ENVISAT RA2 Level 2 Ice Algorithms, and for CryoSat mission.
Current projects include: development of the CryoSat Instrument Processing Facility, ESL support of the RA2 mission on ENVISAT, Quality Assurance of the ERS-WAP data products.
