Rosemary Willatt is a PhD student at the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM) at UCL. She works on determining sea ice thickness using satellite radar altimetry, which allows large areas of sea ice to be studied from space. She is looking at radar penetration into snow cover on sea ice and analysis of data from experiments for calibration and validation of the CryoSat satellite. She spent six weeks on an icebreaker in September-October 2007 gathering data on sea ice off East Antarctica.
She received 1st class honours for the MSci degree in Astronomy from UCL in 2006. She was then a Young Graduate Trainee with the European Space Agency in Madrid.
