Robert Bingham is a research associate who specialises in polar glaciology and climate change. His current research for CPOM is concerned with the 3-D visualisation and modelling of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, utilising radio-echo sounding data collected over the last 30 years to provide new insights into the response of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet to climate change. After graduating with B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Res. degrees from the University of Edinburgh in 1998 and 1999 respectively, Robert moved to the University of Glasgow where he conducted a NERC-ARCICE funded Ph.D. on "The Hydrology and Dynamics of a High Arctic Glacier" (1999-2003). He has spent the best part of a year in the Canadian High Arctic, both through his Ph.D. research on Ellesmere Island and through subsequent participation in the spring 2004 Cryosat altimeter field calibration and validation campaign on Devon Ice Cap. He has also conducted glaciological research in Switzerland and Iceland. Robert joined CPOM in January 2005 and is based in the Bristol Glaciology Centre.
