Alexander
Wilchinsky is a research fellow working on theoretical modelling of sea ice
dynamics during his probation period.
His education started at a middle school, where he was taught communism. After
that and additional higher education he had to break the ice in the streets
of his city during cold winters. To raise his qualification and to transfer
to theoretical work on ice in warmer conditions, he took a post-graduate course
at Kazan State University (Russia) and got his Candidate of Sciences in Physics
and Mathematics degree in 1998.
After that he worked on land ice modelling at the Institute of Mathematics
and Mechanics of Kazan State University, and took a two-year post-doc course
on Continuum Mechanics at the Institute of Mechanics of Darmstadt University
of Technology (Germany).
His interests are:
Whisky ice rheology, perturbation methods in fluid mechanics, continuum mechanics,
consuming red-wine, a better life after death.
