Andy Ridout joined CPOM in September 2003 as a Research Fellow in the Department of Space and Climate Physics, University College London.
He obtained an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Physics from Girton College, Cambridge University in 1987, and a Master of Science Degree in Exploration Geophysics from Imperial College, London, in 1988.
Prior to taking up his present position he worked for four years as a Geophysicist for the Shell International Petroleum Company in the Netherlands. He then joined spent three years at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory working for the Department of Space and Climate Physics at UCL on measuring the Antarctic mass balance from ERS-1 and ERS-2 satellite altimetry data. After leaving MSSL he spent six years as a Software Engineer writing seismic data processing software for Ensign Geophysics, a seismic data processing company.
Since returning to UCL he has been developing a method to retrieve Arctic ice thicknesses from Envisat satellite altimetry data.
